Volunteer Opportunities
Board Director
SLS is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of members of the legal, business, senior and general community. SLS is currently recruiting new members to increase the size of its Board. The Board of Directors is comprised of fifteen members who assume governance and fiduciary responsibility for all aspects of the organization's work and meets monthly in Walnut Creek. Board members serve a three year term of office.
Volunteer Attorneys
SLS is seeking retired and practicing attorneys willing to volunteer their valuable time and skills to advise and counsel seniors who would otherwise not have access to legal services. SLS has an active and ongoing service that places volunteer attorneys in its monthly Consult-an-Attorney and Free Wills for Seniors programs held at senior and community centers throughout Contra Costa County. These programs require a commitment of four hours once a month to meet with clients (by appointment) at a designated center.
Law Student / Paralegal Volunteers
SLS is seeking law students and paralegals to assist in providing information and legal assistance to seniors under attorney supervision at its Richmond office. Volunteers will have client contact and will conduct legal research, factual investigations, and draft correspondence and legal documents. This requires a commitment of four hours once a week.
Office Assistant Volunteers
SLS is seeking volunteer office assistants to work at its Richmond office to answer telephones, conduct initial client interviews, schedule appointments and perform other routine support duties as needed. This requires a commitment of four hours once a week.
