Programs

            Contra Costa Senior Legal Services (SLS) provides the following legal and educational services for seniors:

            * General Legal Services Program

            * Consult-an-Attorney Program

            * Wills Drafting Program

            * Educational Services Program             

General Legal Services Program

            SLS provides general advice, counsel and representation in civil legal matters, such as housing, income maintenance/ finance, elder abuse, consumer matters, estate planning and related issues at its Richmond Office located at 4006 Macdonald Avenue. Office hours are 9:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday. Prospective clients must call in advance to schedule an appointment. Telephone: (510) 374-3712.

Consult-an-Attorney Program

            The Consult-an-Attorney Program is designed to provide greater access for seniors who wish to consult with an attorney at their local senior center. This service provides regularly scheduled appointments at the sites listed below. Prospective clients must call in advance to schedule an appointment.

Wills Drafting Program

            The Wills Drafting Program provides a means by which lower income seniors can have simple wills drafted for them by an attorney. This program is conducted at the SLS Richmond Office as well as at various senior and community centers throughout Contra Costa County. Call (510) 374-3712 for current locations.

Educational Services Program

            SLS regularly presents seminars and workshops designed to educate seniors on important legal issues. Currently offered seminars are listed below. 

            Long-Term Care Seminar

            Contra Costa Senior Legal Services in conjunction with the Ombudsman Services of Contra Costa and the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) of Contra Costa will be presenting a free seminar entitled "LONG-TERM CARE - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW" on APRIL 19, 2006 from 9 AM to 12:30 PM at the CONCORD SENIOR CENTER, 2727 Parkside Circle, Concord, CA.  Advance registration is required.             Durable Powers of Attorney Seminar

            Planning for your own or a loved one's incapacity has become a critical need for everyone. Durable powers of attorney provide the means to manage the personal and financial affairs of an incapacitated person without having to resort to court proceedings. This seminar will instruct you on how properly drafted and executed durable powers of attorney can help you and your loved ones. Advance registration is requested. Please call the Senior Center where the seminar will be given.

            Advance Health Care Directives Seminar

            Seniors in particular need to understand and have an Advance Health Care Directive (AHCD).  An AHCD is the best way to insure that your health care wishes are known and considered if for any reason you are unable to speak for yourself due to an accident or serious illness.   

            Contra Costa Senior Legal Services staff will provide a one+ hour presentation on Advance Health Care Directives to your senior group.  Please call us at (510) 374-3980 to arrange a presentation or ask your local Contra Costa County Senior Center or senior group to arrange one.
